Head cover for driver

I bought a driver (callaway diablo octane black, if anyones interested) in one of the big Irish golf shops at the weekend, but the sales guy insisted that it didn't come with a head cover.

It was €110, so I was surprised that that was the case. Just wondering if this is the norm. It was pretty close to closing time, so maybe he was just too lazy to go check in the back for one.

Should I have gotten one with the driver? If not, anyone know where i can pick one up on the cheap? The official ones are €25+

Thats a new one on me,
I would have insisted on getting a headcover for it, so i would go back

I'd have told him keep it. Never heard a driver coming without headcover included

You should have gotten a head cover for sure Shifty... Must have been a shortage of head covers on those drivers as I bought one last year and it came with an Octane Pro head cover.

You have prompted me to stick my one on adverts though...have only been meaning to do it for 9 months now :o

A buddy of mine bought a driver last year, and as a clincher they "threw in" the head cover at no extra charge. I kid you not, he was delighted, thought he got a great deal.

It must be standard for Callaway, poor form really. Suppose it makes the driver look cheaper when they don't have to provide a head cover.

Just got a call there from the shop in response to my email. I should have received one with the club alright, and am going to collect it during the week.

They said that not all drivers do come with one but the diablo does, so that's where the confusion came from. He was very apologetic and i was seriously impressed with the quick response time.

    Alls well that ends well.

You should now name the shop. I always like to use shops that give good after sales customer service like that.

Good point, actually. I deliberately refrained from naming them at the start in case there was any legal issue.

Mcguirks in Airside. Fair play to them.

Might be a bit irrelevant, but I was under the impression that fairway woods also come with headcovers, until I bought a cobra 5-wood last year (don't have the model handy, it was around 100eur). It did not have a cover but sales guy threw in some sort of no-name head cover as a bonus and to my surprise, it's the best cover I've ever had. Super easy to put on and off

insist in a cover with every wood you buy
saves marking the head, so keeps the resale value up

Absolutely, not to mention they keep the "clink, clink" noise down too.

This thread is the first time I've ever heard of new woods coming with no headcovers

All Top Brands inc All Callaway arrive in store with covers.
I'd say your first thought of laziness was correct, but fair dues for the quick reply and correction of his error.

Same could be applied to iron covers especially for the softer forged heads and the resultant dings from all the bag clatter but they're in no way common. That said I'd still expect head covers as standard on all painted clubs - woods & putters.

True, but there's a distinct, higher pitched "clink" that comes from a driver head hitting off other clubs. Or maybe I've become just too accustomed to the sound of irons!

I have one for that club, came with a xhot driver (didn't use - collecting dust) if you want to drop me a pm
