    Hi All

I am looking for advice on how to deal with eircom for a new line. There was no phone line ran into the house, I am in the process of chasing the outside wall and a small bit of pavement.

My question is where do I run the ducting to? How far from the box do I bring the duct and as I live in the country how do I find out where I run it to i.e. the main road or near the back of the site as I am not sure where they will want to connect to.

Does anyone know the cost of a new connection fee?

    Thanks

If the wire is running overhead, I think they will expect you to supply ducting to the nearest pole with a string inside to run the line through. However, as every connection is different, particularly when it is rural, you will need to contact Eircom and they will send someone to have a look. When I got my connection for a new build there was no charge even though they had to run a new line from the exchange and cut back some trees. The call centre can be a bit difficult to deal with but the line technicians are very helpful.

I finally got an eircom engineer out to my place, he was telling my wife that as there are not any poles running beside the house that they will have to get onto the council and either put in poles or run the cables underground. Has anyone any expierence with this and if so would they know if I incur the cost or Eircom?

    Hey Homer,
how did you get on with this in the end, as we are at that stage with our build now and have to wait another 2 weeks to get an engineer out to look at the site to see what will have to be done with it. Were Eircom able to run the cables under the ground for you guys and did it end up taking a very long time?
    Thanks for your help

Just to add, we are having unbelievable trouble getting in an eircom line. We ran line to the road, even under the road for them but there seems to be no room on the line and they are not keen on bringing another line from the exchange of .6miles. We have had engineers 6 times at our house now, it really just boils down to cost and I will add my heart is broken with them. The moral of the story, don't assume!

Is it possible to have internet broadband without a landline? Based on the above experiences, is it an option to have an internet service provider plus mobile phones.

Not from Eircom, you need a line to your house. However there are other broadband providers, satellite, terrestrial etc just not 1 of them is an option in the black signal sight we chose to build on!!
