    Hi All,

    VW Passat 07

I am considering upgrading my radio cd RCD 300 to a RCD 310. Now I've been doing some research on this and apparently there can be an issue with battery drain moving from 2nd generation radio to 3rd generation radios.

    http://www.my-gti.com/1101

It's being removed from an 06 so I would find the above strange, but don't fancy wasting sellers or my time (and money) if this is the case.

In addition if the 310 does install and work ok I'd love an aux in option for standard audio jack, any recommendations on this?

    Thanks in advance..

    ft.

The battery drain affected cars (Golf anyway, but I assume Passat is same) built before March 2007. If your car is march 07 or later it should be fine.
The 310 doesn't really offer much over the 300. You'd see much bigger benefits stretching to an RCD 510 or better still the RNS 510.
It is AUX compatible.... The VW's fitted with the 310 came with a standard AUX headphone jack type connection as standard.
Best solution though is the MDI connection, which will give you full iPod control, track names on screen, full control etc.

    Hi,

JoeA3 thanks for that. A simple and maybe stupid question, how can I determine what month the car was built?

The cd player in the 300 is effed hence the reason for switching to the 310..

    Many Thanks.

You should be able to tell by decoding the VIN number of your car, using one of the online decoders, e.g.

Sorry, to bring back up a thread, but I have a question about the first two posts, which is why I didn't start a new thread.

The link in the first post says that the battery drain issue happens in cars built before May 2008, but Joe, you said that it is March 2007?

Just want to check as I have a Mk5 Golf that was made late 2007 and I have the mp3 RCD300 headunit. I want to change it for a RCD310 and replace the ipod connection in my glovebox for an MDI kit so I can connect up a USB pen and play songs from it and be able to charge my phone and play songs from it too, and have the display screen give the name of the song etc. too. Cheers.

To be 100% sure you have to check what gateway is in your car. For example my Golf 2008 gateway is 1K0 907 530 Q so if you have L ,M and so on it's fine.

How do you do that exactly? :D

I had to use VCDS diagnostic tool because it was hard to reach d yoke as it is located in the drivers footwell, underside of the dash, to the right of the steering wheel, just to the left of the bonnet release.

Any car garage should have VCDS (I think) and it is a 1 min job.

I've tried the VIN code of a different car I'm interested in getting on the website posted above. It tells me its a 2009 car (the ad for it says late-2008 though). I imagine this means it won't suffer the battery drain problems?

It should be fine. My car was registered in Oct 2008 but when I checked the VIN Number it says that it is a 2009 model, so all good.

Yeah, as I have checked another site and they say that the date of first registration was 1st September 2008. So it's a 2008/9 car. All I have to do now is buy the car and the updated stereo for it. Cheers. :)

Aux in using headphone jack is just white noise and with Bluetooth enabled it does not see it in phone scan or playback phone music while playing with bluetooth ebabled on Rcd310 setup menu.
Anyone any hints / tips / advice on how to get phone audio playback?
