New TV arrived with Euro plug

Bought a new Sharp Aquos TV from pixmania that arrived this morning. It came with a European 2-pin plug.
Ordinarily i'd just plug it into an adapter and work away. But this is an expensive piece of kit, and I didn't want to take any chances, so I rang Sharp.

The sharp rep said that it is not advisable to use an adapter, that we should contact pixmania to have them send out a replacement TV with a 3 prong Irish/UK plug. He was adamant that using an adapter may lead to damage to the TV. And that since it was a European model, they would have difficulty repairing it as the boards inside are different in the UK/Irish version (this bit sounded dodgy to me, surely the TV is basically the same Euro or Ire).

Pixmania rep I got gave me the run-around, apologised for not including an adapter and said they would send one out. I kept saying that the manufacturer said not to use one, but she wouldn't accept that, and kept banging on about the adapter before hanging up.

Am I being too cautious here? Should I just use an adapter? I'd rather take the advice of the Sharp rep as surely he knows what he's talking about.

Pixmania have a 14 day return policy, so I could just send it back
I was looking forward to enjoying the new TV, and not having to deal with hassle :(

    EU: 230V, 50Hz
    Ireland 230V, 50Hz

The only difference is the shape of the actual plug. The idea that different boards inside (even if true) would make any difference is nonsense. It sounds to me like the Sharp rep was talking rubbish.

If it were me I would have pixmania send the adapter and use the product as it was sold.

Talked to Sharp again. He said the warranty would not be voided by using an adapter, but we would have to use it at our own risk. I reckon they have to say that just to cover their arses really. And if it does break it would likely have to be sent to Europe to get fixed, which isn't a problem really.

Pixmania are sending out an adapter for free, but I think I'll head down to an electrical store to get one today as dont want to have to wait another week for delivery of the adapter :p

I guess plenty of people buy TVs off pixmania, and plenty come with euro plugs & adapter, so I'm sure it will be fine.

Thanks for the reassuring responses to this Nervous Nelly :)

Personally I would just chop the plug and wire on a 3 pin one.
