Less than 1000 more than 500 inc vat and labour id say, not the easiest part in the world to replace or find in a scrapyard

Depending on the pump and the nature of the failure it's quite possible that there are metal shavings all over the fuel system.

Make sure that whoever is doing the repair strips down the system completely and cleans it out. If they don't, you're likely to have the replacement pump die very quickly.

Thanks, i'll make sure to mention this. He has to attach a diagnostics kit to confirm its the pump as its another mecanic who collected it from side of the road when it broke down who told me thats the most probable issue.

It was driving along normally and all of a sudden lost power and the IMMO light came on the dashboard.

I wouldnt mind but it was just with another fella bout 2 weeks ago for a new starter motor :( Bad timing with Christmas!!

The guy who collected it from the side of the road sounds like one of those DOOMSDAY VERDICT lads - don't buy into his assumption.....because thats all it is...... wait for the proper diagnostics to be performed.

Sounds more like an electrical fault to be honest. I'd be paying special attention to the area around the starter just in case something might have been disturbed.

Lots of possibilities to be eliminated before condemming the hp pump.

That happened to my 2004 sorento before. I found an article on a russian 4x4 forum and I disconnected the battery, connected it again and the car was fine , its a fault to do with sensors in the injection system for rail pressure , ran a bottle of injector cleaner through it with the next fill up and it never happened again (kept it for another 20,000 miles after that)
