Messing with people

I know I just started another thread a second ago but this just popped into my head from a few years ago and it got me curious. Please don't ban me. They're both serious threads although I don't see why there was a problem with lighthearted threads previously. Can't people just choose not to post in them if they find it boring or whatever? Anyway forget I said that, I'm not trying to tell you guys how to do your jobs :P

A few years ago, a certain footballer was in the paper quite a lot and I hate this guy. So do most of my friends. Anyway, we were able to track his personal phone number down and would regularly ring him and take the piss out of him in some many ways. I think he deserved it though. I also used to really dislike Tubs and I had to meet him two years ago and pretended I had no idea who he was just to sort his ego out. I regret that though because he's actually very nice, just comes across bad on the late late show with weak interviews.

Anyway, basically people are always taking the piss with famous people for fun. Like that Talifornia lad who posed for the picture with your man calling him a prick. The lad was right there with that one!!
Anyway, which way have boardsies taken the piss out of well known people?
I'd sa GAA players get it sooooo badly down the country! :D:D

Henry shefflin coming across the bridge in Waterford to do his Christmas shopping! Is his own county not good enough? Me and the lads had no problems showing our contempt in the form of a big middle finger and implied that he was a wanker, it was all in good fun tho and he was grinning and laughing like an idiot realising he was caught rotten.

    or any fun :(

People do this not to annoy the person. Just to have some craic with them.

Another one you always see is people roaring at Bertie?
    "Where's the nearest pub Bertie"
"Bertie have you got a lend of a few quid??" ect

I've always found that GAA players are hero worshipped in their own and neighbouring counties... My OH adores Paul Galvin and recently followed him on twitter, I have thought of about 12 different things to tweet them both to take the absolute p1ss, nothing offensive just knobbing about to mess with my OH and a chance to wind up Paul Galvin........ But I won't... I think it will just all work out better in my head

The public image that people have doesn't necessarily accord with the private person - the private person is often aghast and hurt that people confuse both and accost them in public.

It's the same with acquantances - we might think that they are acting the maggot, and only later find out that they were very stressed or had suffered bullying or something that makes their behaviour understandable.

What do you think the GAA person thought of you lot? Did he 'learn a lesson' or just think you lot were fecking idiots? My bet is on the second.

I remember a time when a rather divisive LOI manager came with his side to play my team. One of our fans went right up to the wall right beside the dugouts and spent the best part of the game ripping the piss out of the guy. In fairness, he took it a lot better than his media personality would have had us believe he would.

Thats why Henry has a zillion All Ireland medals and Waterford haven't won anythin since the original Henry the Eighth was ridin his sixth wife. :p

Also given that he's from Ballyhale he'd be as quick going into Waterford as he would Kilkenny. But sure there's no fun in being logical when you could be taking the piss out of someone who has won 9 All Irelands.

I don't mean taking the piss out of people, granted that's what we did to John Terry yes, but I really hate him.

I'm more talking about having some nice fun with these people.

I'm pretty sure most of them would rather be left alone!

Edit: So "a certain footballer" was John Terry. Now I know he's a bit of a dick, bit why do you hate him? What did he ever do to you?

You don't ride your mates wife. What a scummy thing to do to someone.
But maybe that was childish yes, it was a few years ago but you know what a group of lads are like at that age!

Ah yeah, and I'm not arguing that the man isn't a low life, I just wouldn't be going out of my way to be bothering him when he never did anything to me personally. Better things to be doing with my time.

Young lads messing, whilst still a bit pathetic, wouldn't bother me so much because they're only young lads. Grown adults at similar craic though, just need to grow up. A bit of banter I don't mind, but what's banter to one person might be an almighty piss take to someone else. Err on the side of caution and say nothing would be my take on the whole thing!

Christ Almighty, some of the posters on this thread are painful and without Any sin or zest for life.

They could talk all day about what people shouldn't do....

We had a history teacher who was almost deaf. To wind him up we'd pretend to be shouting and talking to each other, but with no sound coming out of our mouths. He'd start tapping his hearing aid and getting very stressed out.
Poor bastard had a nervous breakdown a few years later with all the grief his students gave him. Dead now.

The above could be a criminal offence,

    "Harassment.

10.—(1) Any person who, without lawful authority or reasonable excuse, by any means including by use of the telephone, harasses another by persistently following, watching, pestering, besetting or communicating with him or her, shall be guilty of an offence."

Tracking someone's personal phone number down and harrassing them on it for the craic?

Sounds like great "craic" alright.

I don't think that if someone shouts a joke at Enda on the way out of Croke Park we can call that person an asshole. Otherwise life would be very mundane. Boardsies are wrong in this one if they think this type of stuff is not right. And a group of young lads making a few prank phone calls is harmless.

It was wrong and you know it

When I was younger, me and my mates used to prank call a guy in the phonebook whose name was listed as H.Hogan.

When he answered I would just do an impression of Hulk Hogan the wrestler and say his lines. "Watchu gon do brother, when Hulkamania runs wild on you!!!!!"

Dunno if he ever got it though...

So if a stranger insulted your Dad while he was out and about minding his own business you wouldn't care?

Or if people started making prank calls to your Mam or Grandmother, you would take it as just a bit of craic?
