Loss of signal on BT Sports

I was watching the Utd - Swansea game earlier on BT Sports and as we had some quite heavy rain here (Donegal) the picture started to break up then loss of signal and then back for a short period again. This sequence was repeated every 10 minutes approx. and finally near the end of the game the signal went completely on the HD channel and was hit and miss on the SD channel.

I checked a few of the other channels including RTE, Sky sports and even Setanta which is poor at the best of times and they were all fine. At half time in the match I rang a friend who lives less than a mile from me and he had a perfect picture on his BT Sports and had no interference or loss of picture.

I checked the signal strength and on both cables it was shown at around 80 - 90% with quality being around 30%. At one stage one of the feeds was shown zero on both strength and quality. Another thing I noted was that there was little or no difference in the quality of the picture on BT Sports Sd and HD when it was viewable.

So is this something I should ring Setanta about or is it a case of the dish being very slightly off?

    Hi,

I had a chat with some of my colleagues in here and it sounds like a problem with your satellite.

    This could mean either:

    • The alignment of your satellite dish is not correct
    • There is a problem with the LNB device on your satellite

You will need to contact the person who installed your satellite for further assistance.

    Thanks,

    Niall

Well if I was called out to this, I would be looking for trees in line with satellite dish, check LNB, and if none of them it would be box, unlikely alignment if all other channels were flawless at same time, also heavy showers could also cause intermittent problems on some channels while others would be fine

    Thanks for the reply Niall.

I'll get someone to check the dish alignment and LNB but what I find strange, as posted earlier, is that every other channel I checked was fine.

There are deciduous across the road but its definitely not them as this was never an issue before (Sky installed nearly 20 years) and given that its winter they would be less of a problem.

Possibly the LNB as you say and while I didnt check every single channel obviously I did flick through about 9 or 10 of them and all were fine with the exception of the 2 BT Sports channels obviously.

I live in midlands and my BT Sport went during that game but there was a horrendous heavy rain storm at that time and that's definitely the reason why mine failed.

Just a wee update. I got a local lad to call today and while there is very little breeze today and just some intermittent light showers the channels are all working fine which I suppose is a bonus.

Anyhow he checked the picture strength and quality both on display from the box and up at the dish and both feeds were showing at around 80/50. He adjusted the dish very slightly and then both feeds were showing at around 100/90 :)

So hopefully that will be that although we wont know for sure until the next time we get really heavy rain and/or strong winds.
