Cool, I didn't know about this. Where's the cheapest place to get xbox gold?

I normally use gamesnash.ie for all my xbox stuff. Think its around 40 quid for 12 month xbox gold and they email you the code so no waiting for the post!

Really? I thought tomb raider was free too? Could be wrong.

Tomb Raider Will be Free after the 15th.

Once you have downloaded them while they are free, you can redownload them and delete them when you like, as long as you are on Gold. More info here - Scroll to the end

Also, You can get 1 month free xbox live - To do this, you must connect to XBOX Live on the internet, and make you here: https://live.xbox.com/en-IE/Home

You will then be able to select the following subscription:
    Xbox Live Gold
    Gold - 1 month trial
    €0.00

It is necessary to enter your banking information to validate the subscription. It should be noted that Microsoft automatically activates the automatic renewal of your subscription, so do not forget to disable (in your account settings, which can be found here: https://account.xbox.com/en-IE)

Sleeping Dogs is free 1-15 January
Lara Croft is free 16-31 January

You can purchase the games for free at any point during these windows and keep it forever.

not technically true, you can only play those games while you have a xbox live gold account.

To be fair this is probably to stop people getting the game using the 1 month free gold or by just paying for 1 months worth of gold.

"Games for gold" should be a bit of a give away... :) Its in the terms and conditions of all the free games. While you have a xbox gold live subscription these games are yours to enjoy. Once you fail to renew your sub these games just become wasted space on your hard drive.

When it was announced, it was stated that the games were yours "forever" nothing about needing to maintain a gold subscription. Was that only published when they extended this gimmick?

    * Games with Gold :)

I haven't seen this. Are you sure? I'm under the impression I can keep these games when my subscription lapses.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,381 ✭✭✭✭Allyall

You can play them forever, but not online play if you are not on xbox live (As with all games on Xbox360).
If you delete them, I'm not sure if you can redownload them without Gold membership. If you have Gold membership you can download them whenever you like.
As long as they're on your hard drive, you can play them.
On the PS3 however, you cannot continue to play the free games when your subscription to playstation plus ends.

going by the xbox site its not 100% clear, it says the games are yours forever but at same time bangs on not stop about having gold membership so??? Over on IGN forums they state that regardless of your current membership status once games are downloaded with gold they remain yours but on other hand ive seen on the xbox support twitter people saying tje games nolonger work for them...either way I'll know for definate in about 14-15months time :)

this is false. once you have the game downloaded it does not matter if your xbox live sub expires. you have to have an xbox live sub to download it first

If you have Gold at the date the game is available you can download it for free and keep it for life. Even if you let your Gold expire.

Check Adverts.ie, although it is worth mentioning, if you look around online you may find a brand new one roughly the same price with a warranty. January sales, new consoles out etc..

Has to be a paid gold membership as far as I know, free trail won't cover it.
