Ford Focus Problem after changing oil

    Hi all.
I replaced oil and oil filter in my 2007 Ford Focus 1.6 tdci today.
    I used 5w-30 oil.
After changing oil the oil light stays on even though oil level is correct.
However oil light goes off if I rev engine to 1,000 rpm or above.
light only comes on at idle.
I also notice a rattle from engine on timing belt side. Rattle increases when engine is revved but rattle seems to disappear when above 1,000 rpm.

    Any ideas.

You've got something wrong in the filter housing. Maybe the filter is squashed or the drain piece is missing/ no o ring

i know this isnt really helping but isnt 5w 30 oil a bit watery for a 2007 car i was thinking 10w or 15w be right?

Is it a red or yellow oil light. I'd imagine it must be the filter wrong although ford changed the filter on them so it will only go on one way unless is another brand older type filter.

5w30 is the correct spec for that car I have a 1.6tdci focus. A lot of modern Diesel engines take 5w30 oil so Your post doesn't really make sense.

Take the oil filter back out and have a look compare the old and new filters.

I cant think of any other cause of this problem ive done hundreds never an issue.

    Its the red oil light.
When i turn on ignition the oil light comes on briefly, then off for a second then back on again. Then when i start the engine the light stays on until i rev over 1,000 rpm.

There is no signs of leaks from sump nut or filter housing.
I fitted new seal on filter holder, but never checked for the small o ring at tip of filter. Ill take it out tomorrow and have a look.

The rattle noise is coming from opposite side of engine from oil filter.
Could oil pump be starting to act up?

when you removed the cartridge filter is there a chance the rubber o ring at the base of the filter is still stuck in the oil feed hole in the filter housing ,like that lad martin said , done stacks of them , and never a problem , unless u had some previous oil issues ,that you thought changing the oil would fix

The red oil light is for oil pressure so low oil pressure. Assuming the level is right as if it was seriously low it may cause loss of oil pressure. Personally I wouldn't start or drive the car until you get it sorted. Hopefully someone will come along with possible issues. If the light never came on before then its most likely to do with the service and not the oil pump acting up. Ivemserviced my focus 1.6tdci a few times and have never experienced to light so can't be of much help. Hopefully you get it sorted and its nothing big.

No previous oil issues car was due a service.
Didnt measure how much just put in half gallon and keep topping up until level on dipstick is reached, then start it for 5 seconds to let filter fill up then check dipstick again add as appropiate. Ill check filter again tomorrow.

doubt anyone has ever bought 5w30 instead of 10 or 15w in the history of the world tbf

Is this your first oil change on this car?

Is it possible that a previous owner had oil pressure problems and "solved" them by using thicker oil?

Lads the op said they got the problem sorted it was posted this morning but due to the site maintenance the posts were lost. I think the op said it was down to the filter not being put properly into the housing. Just said I'd say it so people aren't trying to help with a problem that's been solved.
