I got a PC from Komplett using their system builder in 2008 and think its time to upgrade so looking for recommendations.

Current spec is : (copied from invoice)
Antec Nine Hundred black miditower, Side panel window
Corsair Powersupply 650W Black, ATX/EPS,120mm Fan, 8xSATA, SLI
    MSI P45 NEO-F, P45, Socket-775, DDR2, 1600FSB, ATX, ICH10, PCI-Ex(2.0)x16

    Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 2.67GHz Socket LGA775, 8MB, BOXED w/fan
    Corsair TWIN2X 6400C5DHX DDR2, 4096MB Kit w/two CL5 2GB Dimm's, E.P.P and DHX

    HIS Radeon HD 4870 512MB GDDR5,PCI-Express 2.0, 2xDVI/HDMI/HDCP

    2 x Samsung SpinPoint F1 750GB SATA2 32MB 7200RPM
    1 x 1TB drive
LG DVD Drive, GDR-H20NRBB, SATA, 16x52,

I was thinking something like an I5 4670K would give me the performance boost I want though I have never installed a motherboard before, just ram, gfx card and hard drive so not sure if it is too complicated??
Would also like an SSD boot drive and 8GB ram.
How many hard drives can be installed ?
    Any help appreciated, thanks

You could sell your old pc and start again.
Otherwise you are just throwing away ram, and wasting USB3.0 options.

But if you want to just upgrade. You need mobo ram and CPU. If you are not going to overclock the non k version of that CPU is perfect.

I'm assuming your case you are keeping only supports the olderUSB2.0, and your mobo will have USB3.0 available.

How much did.your amazon parts come to total.

    £403 in total

am I correct in saying thee 2 USB ports on the front of case would remain usb2 and the ones on rear are the mb ports?

Are you planning on doing any gaming or is this just a workstation?

You can save on the SSD by getting the 120 gb version. You can use that for your OS and get the boot benefits etc and then use your actual mechanical 1TB hd for storage

could save 30 euro going hwvs but with amazon you get that customer service. Second to none.
    That's your shout.

And yeah board has 6 USB 2.0 via headers, so you be cool to hook back up your originals at front and have the 3.0 at back.
Just won't have the 3.0 upfront but meh . It's no biggie
