Can I leave my Eircom contract early?

In October, I moved into a new house about a mile into the countryside and transferred my Eircom broadband/phone package over. This meant signing up for a year's contract. My broadband is appalling (download speeds of 0.3 Mbps, upload 0.2 Mbps -- that's not a typo). I've been through everything I can with Eircom support (different sockets, no splitters, ethernet cables etc) and it hasn't changed at all. In fact, my neighbours said they had the same problem and went to a satellite provider instead.

Given how awful the service is, and the fact it's not going to get better, can I extricate myself from the contract as I'm not getting anything worthy of the name "broadband"?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

What does it say in the Terms and Conditions of your contract?

Is it the standard contract? http://www.eircom.ie/bveircom/pdf/standard_eircom_broadband_terms_and_conditions.pdf

I was in contract with Ripplecom, but kept complaining due to the awful connection I had - got in contact with ComReg and I got myself cleanly cut off from Ripplecom's services with no extra charge.

    Might be worth a try.

Thanks for the link! It appears they make no guarantees about the service and if I cancel, there'll be substantial charges -- the pat of the year I opt out of. looks like I'll give Support one more chance, then take it to Complaints, then...

... give ComReg a go. I don't believe it's fair for me to be penalised and tied to a useless service.

    Thanks to you both!
