Bury mobile charger/cradle vs. micro USB car charger ( also issue with electric windo

I have an 09 ford focus, which had installed in it when I got it, a bury mobile cradle and changer connected behind the dash. This works fine but I have gotten a new phone for which I got a micro usb charger to plug into the lighter/auxillary power sockets.

The thing is, it doesn't work when inserted into these sockets. It has a red indicator light which supposedly lights up when it is working but doesn't in this case and the ohone doesn't start charging.

I am wondering has the power/ cables to these sockets been diverted to the bury cradle, is this how it is installed? (a bury cradle compatible to my new phone is available but it is a bit pricey so don't want to go down that route).....

Also during the bad weather, one frosty morning, I forced the driver electric window a bit when trying to open it (as it was frozen in the door), it still opens , but only if I keep pressing the button, as in, the passenger door when I press the button once, the window goes all the way down automatically. Is this something I could look into fixing myself or best left to the professionals??Its not a big deal, but slightly annoying......

Thanks, I appreciate any advice on these issues.

You could try holding the switch in the "up" position for 10 seconds when its closed to reset it. Works on other cars.

Have you checked to see if the lighter works. I have come across these USB chargers that don't seem to quite fit the lighter socket in particular. If the lighter works you'll know you have power and the problem is not with the socket itself.

Also, I think the ignition will have to be to the first or even the second position to work the sockets.

Could you get a micro USB to *phone brand* adaptor yoke?

Maybe I've misread but is the issue with power to the power and lighting sockets? (or as I suggest with the USB plug in charger)?

OP has a working bury cable with micro USB. attach one of those jobbies and you're done.
On reading it, the bury cable is probably not micro usb, so unless there's a backwards adaptor yoke you can get, its a non runner.

What phone did you have before OP?

    Hi folks,

firstly there is no actual cigarette lighter thing in the car as in older cars, the actual lighter part has been replaced with a bit of plastic just to cover the hole so I can't do that test with it. Tried it with the engine running, still no go. It is a charger like this:

    https://encrypted-tbn2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSioTigKOkwtl_PEJW1u0OlNWirTpP6C0VrcuAhPSxN7NKWIudJ

I'm not sure now if usb was the correct name for it as it does not have a USB connection, it is for a samsung galaxy phone. It cannot be connected to the existing bury set up-different cradle would be required which is why I got this charger for auxillary power source.

Previous phone was a nokia 2310 or something similar, not a smartphone anyway.
