Because they are the bosses of irony.

I agree with you, bar Una O'hagan who I think is the exception to the rule, I like her positive clear upbeat delivery, but the rest of them are definately lacking, specially that Sharon Ni Panda eyes-croaky voice! (soon to be put on the scrap heap) thank God.

The news headlines should be introduced with this in the background to lighten it up:

    Cause it's serious business.

    Deadpan?

Is Ian Hislop doing the RTE news now?

Hey OP.. 'deadpan' suggests a level of comic brilliance that no RTE presenter possess.

The word you're looking for is 'shit'

There's a happy medium though. RTE presenters do seem boring and deadpan nomatter what the news story, take a look at our nearest neighbours on BBC NI or UTV and you will see a much livlier broadcast. And if you then look at the main BBC or ITN broadcasts from London you will see an even bigger difference (in a positive way). RTE seems to be too biased towards the 'heavy & serious' delivery . . . . .

PS; Sky News leaves me cold.

Uncle from the States gets RTE News over there every day and says it's refreshing to see News Presenters actually behave professionally & the more serious/factual tone of news over here compared to there.
Can't complain really. Doubt anyone watches the 6:1 for light-hearted entertainment.

They're newsreaders not entertainers. What do you want from them?

They're reporting on murders and war and shít, it'd be a bit odd to see a smile and a wink.

Much better than the forced smiles on sky news. Some of them look freaky.

Have you noticed that sipping sound that the Sharon yoke started?

She has Dobson doing it too.

    Most annoying thing about her.

Infairnwss I would be "excited" as them presenting the same **** everyday. There might be a massive earthquake in South American. But rte will still make a house fire in which no one died in Wicklow as the headline.

Is it still can't news if there is no factual information?

Jon Snow on Channel 4 manages to be witty at the same time as being professional and serious when reporting the news.

I think it's much better.the news shouldn't be entertainment like it is in America. It's an important source of info that helps shapes the general publics views of the world.it should be straight to the point and presented in an unbiased was as is possible.sensationalism from the likes of fox news has a lot to answer for.

Yup they are incredibly crap. I used to love watching Bill Turnbull and Sian Williams on BBC before heading out in the mornings- very engaging:

What about Sharon's coughing I find that most annoying & some of the reporters especially political and financial correspondants bore u to death the way they deliver their news

Imagine if you were related to this murder victim and you saw this news presenter go into hysterics.

I saw another clip on American news where a reporter went into fits of laughter reporting on a fireman being burned to death.

They should be a bit more like ITV.
