Adapter for scope/tripod

Hi,
I have recently acquired a spotting scope and tripod from different sources.

My problem is I think I need to get a plate? or some adapter piece?? so the scope will sit properly on the tripod and can be moved easily up down left right etc.

( this could be more suited to the photographythread but I'm hoping there are birders on here that have had experience with this before)

Any help would be grateful,

I am not sure exactly what you need... is it a tripod head that allows pan and tilt, or is it the plate to attach a scope to the tripod head? Most scopes will attach to a video/camcorder type tripod head, and the scope usually comes with the plate. A tripod head, on the other hand, can be an expensive piece of kit, depending on the make...

Many spotting scopes do indeed need a small plate that acts as an adaptor so they can fit in the tripod head. Mine does and I recently bought a spare plate from ebay.

What Desmo said, but bear in mind that all tripod makes are different, and even within one make they sometimes have different fixings, so make sure you get the right one. If in doubt take the tripod along to a decent photographic shop and they should be able to sort you out.

That's the second time Conn's camera shop has been mentioned to me this week so I think I will take the scope and tripod in to them.
A bit wary of buying off the internet because I couldn't be sure it would fit my scope/tripod.
