Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 dying

I got a present at Christmas of a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7 inch tablet, the problem is that after working fine for a week it is now dying when the battery drops to 40% and it then resets the date and time to 2013. It works fine before it reaches 40% charge. Any advice appreciated.
