Planning

I have been teaching for a long number of years. I feel, however, with the current loading of admin and planning that my self esteem is crashing. I see fortnightly plans from younger teachers in my school and many extend to 12 typed pages. I envy them as to how quickly they seem to be able to finish these plans. I look at many of the headings such as learning objectives, content objectives etc. and there seems to be a large amount of repetition involved particularly on a fortnight to fortnight basis. Do other teachers feel like this or would anyone have any advice or help. I would really appreciate it.

Theyre not needed. A scheme of work for the year with a broad outline of what you want to do is all you need.

I can't see why you would need fortnightly plans

Fortnightlies are for primary I think?

Fortnightly or weekly plans are required at primary level. That's in addition to either termly or yearly plans.

As a secondary teacher, I tend to break it down to yearly/term/half-term.
So, I have made a plan for each class to take me from January up to mid-term break in Feb. We have not as yet had a subject inspection in my subject, but all ready for one! Had a WSE, and no plans were requested for inspection, except overall department plan.

If you are a primary teacher there is a very handy planning tool on the NCCA site.
