Moving house, good bye fiber bb :(
Had to get broadband from lightnet.ie in new gaff and they say to use a cable router. If i plug the LAN cable from their box into my pc i can get access directly but need to get the other devices on my home network access.
The Vodafone Huawei HG658c has a WAN port, can i reuse this instead of buying a new cable router?

it would appear not, unless there is a way to put on generic firmware or enable the WAN configuration options..

That router is pretty brutal anyway, the ui is a pain and simple tasks such as port forwarding are made way more complicated than they need to be. Have a quick look on amazon (or even Argos) for tp-link wireless n routers - excellent value, reliable and easy to use. You're looking for the cable variety, ie. no adsl modem built in

yeah going to go down the tp-link cable router route but was looking for something to tide me over for a few days until i can get one delivered. At the moment i can only browse the internet if i sit in the attic and connect to the lan cable from the lightnet POE box to my laptop.

I also have a TP-Link TL-WA701ND access point, trying to figure out if i can create an client or bridged wifi network using this but am a bit of a n00b in this area. Have an existing network using a TP-Link TD-W8961ND but not internet access on this as its a DSL router, just using it to access my NAS at the moment.

You just need an ethernet Router + switch. There is really no such thing as a Cable Router, though Argos and Tesco call an Ethernet Router a Cable Router. Maplin too.
