    Hi there

I am looking to buy a car and finding it hard to choose between the three. Does anyone has any bad experiences or problems with any of them.

Passat CC looks really nice inside and outside so far but haven't driven one yet.

I own BMW 530d auto and love it but the road tax is the killer as its pre 07 model. Would 520 be the same to drive? Although I know it wouldnt be as powerful as my current 530

    Don't have a clue about Audi A6.

    Thanks

    Thanks

Passat CC is a huge stepdown from a 530d.

520d N47 prone to timing chain issues. €3k to fix if detected early, €8k if not.

You reckon i should pay yearly tax for 530d and keep it? I do have to pay atleast 4k to get any of these cars.

I actually havent felt any other car nicer to drive than my 530d

4k is almost three years tax, you know?

My general view is change cars if you spot something you like or want to get a newer car, but don't ever change cars to save money. Especially moving up years. Depreciation is so savage on cars in Ireland its nearly the reg plate alone that determines value of a used car. The only way to do that is to buy an older car, but lets face it, most people won't do that. Keep your 530d, what year is it? I would wager that moving up years from a high tax 530d to a low tax 520d would cost more than 4 grand, even to move up 1 year. I drive a 2004 525i with €1,080 annual tax by the way, car cost peanuts to buy so it all levels out.

Mine is 530D 2004 Dec with new shape.Top model and still drives like new. Wont get more than 5K if private sale or 3500 trade in value. 520D 2007 0r 2008 is around 8k or 9k. I dont really know what to do.

Maybe should just pay yearly tax on my 530d

Paying more for a car to pay less for tax is stupid and unless you really want to upgrade to a newer car, there's no point.

Yeah you are right.Would not downgrade to small car so will pay yearly road tax instead. Its too high though. I wonder why no one protest about it. Such a big difference.I feel its just a rip off!!

It's ridiculous in my opinion, but unfortunately we have no choice.

Motor tax should be in fuel, end of story.

Drive wise you will be disappointed coming from a BMW to the other two imo. Nothing wrong with them but they are just not driver's cars unless you opt for the Quattro in the A6. You will equally be disappointed with all 3 coming from a 6 cylinder down to a 4 cylinder.

Change if you feel like a change but spending thousands to change up for cheaper tax is a false economy.

That's the only way to lobby against it..but the Government want us all buying new cars and paying more VRT/Excise

Quattro doesn't transform the A6's handling into a drivers car either. It's still numb, just with better grip and improved road manners. New model A6 or nothing would be my take on it!
