    Hi all

    Recently purchased a VW Golf MK4 (1999)
It's a lovely car and all, but the first night I had it, I pulled in to get petrol, and I noticed the engine was dropping to 500 revs and then reving itself up to about 1.5k-2k as if I was hitting the accelerator. It continued to do this for a few mins, until I turned it off and re-started it a few mins later. It stopped and I pulled off. Just as I pulled out, I noticed the power was lacking. At times it was fine, but then the power would completely disappear. Tried to google the problem, but got some many answers - from changing the plugs, to changing the engine :O
Problem didn't happen for a few days, so thought nothing of the whole thing, and moved on.
Today, I was driving through town. Engine was at normal temp and everything seemed fine. Hadn't noticed any loss of power this time, as I was going pretty slow. Came to a junction, and pressed the clutch. The engine stalled. Wasn't sure what just happened. As I was on the way somewhere, I again, didn't think much of it. Then on the way home from the same journey - The same thing happened. The power was lacking this time, and when I hit the clutch, the engine stalled. This time the engine was cold, or very near to. The whole way home, I also noticed that when I hit the clutch, the revs would drop very low, but just avoid stalling. Power all the way back was lacking, with short bursts of full power.

Anyone got any ideas as to what this could be?

If I was a gambling man, I'd bet the house on it being the throttle body needing cleaned - break out the carb cleaner!

Nope. No lights on the dash.

I'll give that a clean tomorrow. so, and see how that effects things. Thanks for the advice.
