I've picked up a freisan cull cow off a neighbour, a grand framey cow weighing in at 640kgs, she didn't go back in calf so she was milked away to November, she'll put on a good few more kilos and bulk out nicely to be killed in May/June...
What sort of money would I expect to pay for her?

I wouldnt take much notice of a cows weight as she could be all belly and tits:D, good tight cow with wide hips to carry weight @ 640kgs would be grand at 750, you still have to realistically have her indoors for 70 days costing up on €2 a day just munching silage, and spreading her slurry. Given the current price of dead finished cows im getting out of them asap

sure arent you guys getting a great price for your milk, share a bit of the wealth:). met my dairy farming neighbor the other day and he was crying after selling some cows, you would swear he had hundreds of them to sell the moaning he was doing.

The few culls I have here are still going though the parlour, some only knocking out 8/10l, but every last drop will be squeezed outa them till april 1st! Even just the 10L/day means about 250 in milk, they might not make much more as culls!

Have 3 lmx cows to kill, R grades about 340 kgs. Have been quoted 330 for R's and 310 if they slip back to an O+.Cant bring them to a mart due to some serious temperament issues. Hardly much point keeping them for a week or two?

Would you not be better to sell them and buy freshly calved cows in their place?

Have enough heifers coming through to comfortably fill next yrs quota, not much point in buying in.

Had a look through the herd register and see that I sold three good R grade cows in the mart in December 2009, average weight 635 kgs average price 680 yoyos. Now that was a bad day at the office.
