Diesel particulate filter query

I'm living in Germany and I'm looking into buying a car. I expect to be putting up solid mileage so I want to get a diesel-engine car. The low-emission zones featured in an increasing number of German cities disqualify most diesel-engine cars from driving through them; the only exceptions have had diesel particulate filters retrofitted. Finding a diesel-engine car online is easy, but when I add the DPF to my search criteria my results shrink by around 90%. My question is this: what's the ballpark figure for having a DPF retrofitted on something like a VW Golf 1.9 TDI? Do you think it's economical to have this done? Google hasn't been of much help.

Buy the 1.6 diesel instead if in budget. Don't think anyone in Ireland fits dpfs from scratch - might be best to ask on a German forum.

Depending on the model, VW offer retrofit DPF kits for the 1.9 TDI. IIRC it's only available on newer PD variants. A dealer should be able to confirm price and availability on any model you're interested in.

I'd imagine other brands may have similar kits available.

What you have to determine then is whether it's even economical to fit one for your use case. German cities have pretty good public transport so I'd imagine it shouldn't be so much of a chore to park in the suburbs and use public transport to get in.
