    Hi there

Can anyone tell me how to access an internal server from the internet? I have read that most ISPs block port 80 so I have set up a NO-IP account. After a good few hours fiddling around with it and looking at some sites I have had no success. When I go to www.canyouseeme.org it's saying that the connection is timing out. The same is happening across all ports selected. I must be doing something basic wrong. I have turned firewall off to test if that was it but no success. Any help would be much appreciated

    Regards
    Stiofain

    Hi,

Which ISP are you using? If you are using a mobile broadband connection these are generally using CGNAT, 3's MBB is the notable exception.

Is your internal network NAT-ed? If so, you will have to configure port forwarding on the router so that, for example TCP Port 80 is being forwarded to 192.168.1.22 Port 80.

    Cheers,
    Colin

You need to "tell" your router you want to access the server from out on the internet

You will need to log into the router and set up NAT for it

Go to the NAT or Port Forwarding section on your router, and forward TCP Port 80 to that internal IP address you currently access it on.

If you do not have a fixed ip address, you will need to setup a dynamic ip host name service like no-ip (free) or dyndns (which is no longer free).

Go to the UPC router in your browser (usually 192.168.1.1) - user/password is either left blank or is admin/password (need a wired connection).

Then go to Advanced (top menu) -> Forwarding (side menu) and give it the local server IP (192.168.1.x usually) and Service name as HTTP (if you are using port 80). Click 'Add' then 'Apply'
