My tax was up 30/11, so I was due to tax my car in December. With Christmas and all I didn't get round to it so I'm taxing it next Tuesday.
My question is,do I now have to tax it (3 months) jan,feb and march, and pay December arrears,
    Or
Can I back tax it dec,jan and feb??

You will be paying December as arrears and then taxing for 3/6/12 months, whichever you decide, starting from January.

If you paid on line 1 minute before the new years bells sounded, you could have paid just for Dec/Jan/Feb, but as you missed the cut-off, you must pay for Dec arrears PLUS pay for 3x fresh months.

Or you could try this. Go to garda station.Fill the form and get it stamped that car was off the road for dec. I got late too and it worked for me last year.

Form has to be submitted by the last day of the month before the off the road period begins

Yep you have to declare it off the road prior to it going off the road.

Since 1st October 2013, was fairly well publicised too.
