We want to go somewhere abroad this September with our 18 month old, neither of us are into sun holidays but need some chill out time...any suggestions for family friends places that have attractions nearby to visit if we get bored. Thanks!

I know this sounds strange, but would you consider Rome? Very reasonably priced, and plenty of attractions.

We stayed in a 4* camping resort (Camping Fabulous), you could choose from Chalets, Mobiles and 'Glamping'. We stayed there twice, the staff are extremly nice, lovely restaurant on site, plenty of playgroups for children of all ages and a very sturdy non slip toddler pool, as well as a pool for adults, shop for groceries, water etc. We paid around 350 for 12 nights 'Glamping', which has electricity but no bathroom (bathroom blocks are located right beside and are extremely well kept). There are also laundry facilities which are very helpful! The mobile or chalet would probably be a better option with young kids. The prices are never per person and are purely based on a nightly rate so as many people as the mobile sleeps wouldn't cost any more or less than if there was just one person in it.

Flights with Ryanair go to Ciampino and are a couple hundred cheaper for flights, the campsite will also pick you up at the airport so it saves the stress of any public transportation.
