Advice on housing entitlement

Hi I just need some advice on my current situation. I'd really appreciate honest helpful advice.
I'm a lone parent with one child and I'm on the housing list for South Dublin. I've been made homeless and staying with friends. It's not an ideal situation with a baby as it's not permanent and I just want a home or my child.
I've rang sdcc and told them my situation and they have basically told me there is nothing they can do regards housing me or providing homeless services because I have not lived in South dub for 12 months. I told them surely they have to sort me out because they accepted me to their authority ? But I got nowhere on the phone with them. They told me if I presented myself as homeless to them they would put me in a hostel until I could get private rented accommodation, but how am I ment to save 2000 for a deposit and one month rent to start renting and apply for rent allowance? I'm very stressed and have absolutely no idea what step to take next

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

I feel for you, it's a horrible situation to be in, but it can get sorted. My friend was in a similar situation and got help from the welfare officer, that is your first port of call. She got the go ahead to look for a place within her price range for her situation and the welfare officer helped her sort it out.

Are you not getting Rent Allowance?
Regarding the Housing List, you'll be in for a long wait.

No I'm not getting rent allowance as I'm not yet renting anywhere. I still have to make up a deposit and months rent and find somewhere accepting rent allowance before I can apply for it.. I understand I'll be in for a wait I wasn't expecting one anytime soon anyway

Wondering you have to go and locate your CWO at your local Health Centre. Next week. She will discuss your Rent Supplement entitlement with you.
She/he will tell you what monthly limit you quality for. You must stay within this limit. Then you will have to actually physically go out and look for rented accommodation for yourself and your child. Check rent.is daft.is all the estate agents all the local papers.
Fill up the form the CWO gives. You and return it to them.
    Get working on this now.

It is really difficult for people on Rent Allowance to find a place within the limits set out by the CWO, but all you can do is look and ask.

Do not be tempted to get yourself a place that's, for example, €800 if your allowance is for €700; you cannot pay the difference and also remember, if the CWO tells you the allowance is, for example, €700, you won't be given €700.

You have to find a place that's no more than that and you also must pay a certain amount yourself, so the actual cheque will be less than that every month.

Rent.ie, Daft.ie, Gumtree.ie and your local paper, noticeboard; check them all every day; set up email alerts from the sites and don't be afraid to put an ad up on your local noticeboard or any site.

Will I have to find a land lord to agree to rent their place to me and then as the CWO for the deposit? I have a feeling lad lords can be a bit itchy about this waiting for their deposit where there might be other interested people who already have it tree and then? I have seen some places on daft so I will have to speak with WO today about obtaining a deposit .. Thank you so much for the advice

Don't speak to any landlords till you speak to the CWO. Ask him/her about a deposit. Rent supplement can take a bit of time so move quickly. Good luck.
