Do you know if it'll play files bigger than 4.5gb?

Can't see it mentioned anywhere, and a lot of my rips are 4.5gb+.

I cant see why it would have any difficulty playing any size file..... whether they are 700mb or 7gb, should not make any difference....

Thought that myself previously. But it turns out some players can't handle the bigger file sizes. The father-in-law's one being a prime example...and I recommended it to him!

depends on the file structure used, some media boxes use fat32, limited to 4gb max file size.

a quick google seems to say it will, most mine are 30gb plus, and it says it can mash these out so looks like a good deal

I know this doesn't have a USB port but does anyone know how well it would use netflix? I have the WD Live player which is excellent and this could help me liberate it from my kids bedroom if it would run netflix properly.

EDIT: My bad, turns out this does have a USB port.

My mate has one and it plays 10gb+ files no bother

It does have a USB port and Netflix works very well on it.

It's been this price for a while, there was another bargain alert on here recently about it. Note that for local media playback - the WD TV Live is a better, if older, solution.

Mmmm might be interested in this. Would this work for streaming local video files wirelessly from a Mac. I have been using a ATV2 and PS3 for this but I recently took the jailbreak off my ATV2 so cant use that anymore and the PS3 is flakel as hell, very fussy about what format it uses.

Bought one a couple of months ago before the price was reduced (thanks, Amazon!). Decent player for a bedroom as it is quiet and you can stream from a DNLA server or use Netflix (although as said, there's no HD support). I have it hooked up to a small hi-fi and it's great for streaming music from my hard drive as well. One thing I have found is that I use Twonky as my DNLA server and the WD Play will sometimes lose the connection to the server and I have to reset the Play to get it back. I've changed the server so it uses a fixed IP address and it doesn't happen as much, but it does still happen. Just wondering if anyone else had encountered this issue.

There should be HD support. It says: "Plays your photos and home videos in Full-HD 1080p"

If you convert your files to mp4, could you then stream it from your mac to the ATV via iTunes?

I've a WDTV Live and use it for Netflix and to stream from a uPNP enabled NAS, but I've not found it to be completely reliable for either. It could just be a connectivity issue though.

Edit: to answer your question - if you install Plex/XBMC, or similar on your Mac, then the WDTV Play should work fine. PS - If you want to swap media boxes for a week, let me know!

No mention of storage on this one, but it has a USB port. Some come with storage, but it's as easy to just buy a flash drive and plug it in. At least that way, it's simpler to get files you've downloaded from your computer onto it.

Another option is to buy a NAS with a media server on it. I have a QNAP NAS that can stream movies & music, as well as act as a network drive for backups. It can download torrents too, which is very handy.
