    As per the title.

Started just before Xmas, going up a steep hill I lost drive power. Pulled in and let her rest for a moment, then carried on, it moved OK in the lower gears but as I worked my way up through the gears was apparent I didn't have the oomph in the higher gears. I checked for loose connections to the air filters and around the turbo but nothing standing out. There is no engine maintenance light either.

Let it rest for an hour when I got home and then took it out again for a spin, seemed back to normal. Xmas day drove it in to the homeplace and was OK but returning back to my own home on Stephen's Day once again going up a steep hill same thing. Got to the top in Low gear and checked engine bay again. Still nothing obvious and no dash light indicating problem. Put off further travel plans over xmas as not convinced there's nothing serious. Used it for a few runs around town over festive period and worked OK.

Today 1st day back at work, commute over 20 miles and halfway, again going up a fairly long but not overly steep hill same thing again. I'm not see any smoke and there is no rattles or mad noises coming from the engine itself and still no indication anything wrong other than the loss of power in high gears.

    Any ideas out there?

    Thanks in advance.

Clutch slipping? (all revs and little progress) should smell a bit.

If it's diesel, fuel starvation, fuel filter, or boost faults. Get it scanned for fault codes. Just because the light is not on does not mean there are no faults stored.

if it a diesel it could be the egr valve.

Was thinking the EGR valve alright ... a friend also mentioned the CAT though haven't read anything about that in the fora i've been looking through. There are no revs ... foot down and nothing (revs, oomph) if going uphill, slowly climbs on the flat on gentle downward gradients.

My garage man is not back until monday. If I were to remove the EGR valve myself, are there any precautions needed (isolate fuel or the likes)? I can do a bit of DIY around the car but never attempted this.
