Was watchin the Tom Hanks movie Big today, first time seeing it in years..and yes its a classic.

When i first saw it as a teenager i enjoyed it immensely, but watching it today as a adult i did find the scene where yer one unbuttons her shirt in front of Hanks and then it implies that they had sex a bit inappropriate.

I mean technically that constitutes underage sex/child abuse doesn't it?? she was having sex with a 13 yr old boy afterall albeit one in an adult body.

do you think that scene was a bit risqué esp for a kids movie? or am i turning into an old fart??

She didn't know he was 13 though right? As far as she knew he was an adult.

Tom Hanks was an adult and they didn't have sex because they're actors. So no I don't follow Op. Also there's actual kids in that movie, a movie which contains a non existant sex scene  *head implodes from pc sh*te overdose*

Oh no I said overdose, I must be condoning suicide. Forgive me father, oh no! I said father in a thread which is vaguely about children!

Is this like fantasizing about Emma Watson in, say, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire?
Like, she was illegal then, but she's legal now, so... who's to say what's "right" in this crazy world?

No, because he appears to be an adult and she does not know about him actually being a young boy.

The implied sex is covered by the PG certification.

I'd imagine there's quite a lot of adults with the mentality of a 13 yr old including myself who aren't virgins. Where's my article in the Dailymail? :(

    Big 2

Tom Hanks becomes a porn star. A simple letter substitution in his second name should give an appropriate porn star name.

Little known fact, in the fictional universe where children can magically transform into adults overnight there are no laws against adults having sex with minors. It's some kind of loop hole I think.

From moviemistakes.com for the movie "Big" -
Continuity mistake: When Elizabeth Perkins sleeps over at Josh's loft, the pillows behind her head are flat and in the middle at the head of the bed. When they cut back from Josh, they are pushed up in the corner of the bed.

I believe that this is enough to convince a jury that the tape has been selectively edited, and they would not be able to convict on the video evidence alone.

In fact, it is enough to call the whole account into question.

I think if we take the film seriously then when he was turned into a man he would have had the same urges , and same Bodley functions as a real man . Everything got big. You could say the same then for people born on a leap year .

I'm sure they'll get around to arresting Tom Hanks eventually. He'll be sent to the special Hollywood Peado Wing.

Honestly OP, I don't think you're turning into an old fart, but I do think at your age you ought to be able to tell the difference between reality and fiction.

Otherwise you may want to steer well clear of the anvil dropping scenes in Looney Toons cartoons, and definitely stay well away from films like Lolita (1997) - a fantastic film that was much more faithful to the novel than the 1962 version by Stanley Kubrick.

That man with the glasses reminded me of the scenes of a sexual nature before the video started so I was prepared.

Oh oh oh - I know. Aswell as physical ID (i.e. how old our body is) we should all have to carry mental age ID and be assessed for it on an annual basis. Yes?

Great idea OP. Awesome. I want to be like, 19 or something.

No wait - I want the body of a 19 year old and the confidence of a 31 year old. Fcuk it I got it backward :(

    [sleazy]you already do[/sleazy]

although technically if you are going on physical age we are always around 7-10 years old as our cells are all replaced

But Doc, she was fifteen years old, going on thirty-five, Doc, and, uh, she told me she was eighteen and she was, uh, very willing, you know what I mean...I practically had to take to sewin' my pants shut. But, uh between you and me, uh, she might have been fifteen, but when you get that little red beaver right up there in front of ya, I don't think it's crazy at all now and I don't think you do either...No man alive could resist that, and that's why I got into jail to begin with. And now they're telling me I'm crazy over here because I don't sit there like a goddamn vegetable. Don't make a bit of sense to me. If that's what's bein' crazy is, then I'm senseless, out of it, gone-down-the-road, wacko. But no more, no less, that's it.

That scene always gave me a horn, she's class! Pity it wasn't a 15 rated film we could have got a good minute of a sex scene. I could be pulling myself to that rather than Elizabeth Perkins in Weeds on a daily basis. The dirty fecker.

His underpants get bigger when he does too. What's that all about? Twas fairly believable up to that point

His parents were into science and futuristic stuff so they used give him elasticated underpants when everyone else was wearing the steel (not of the stainless variety, alas) underpants.

Would they stretch that much? Maybe you're right. I've always been a boxer man myself so I just assumed the oul ball stranglers would have to be slightly more tailored to the size of the individual.

The 31-year-old Tom Hanks wasn't that much bigger than the 13-year-old Hanks.

Meh. Watch classics like the original Star Wars trilogy & Back to the Future part 1 and you might feel a bit uncomfortable with the whole incest storylines...

Yeah, I re-watched it a few years ago and that scene made me feel uncomfortable too.

It's not so much the characters behaviour (as she doesn't know his age obviously) as it is that adults wrote, directed and starred in it and didn't see a problem with it. 'Tis a little strange.

Plus the hiring of the guy who tried to rape your now wife, and the fact that your son is the spitting image of the person you tried to bang when you were younger

thats exactly what i'm getting at,

maybe they were more innocent back then, don't think it would be included in a movie nowadays

Stiffler's mom in the American Pie movies and many, many, many more examples of the audience being in on the joke in a comedy movie - it's funny because the actors aren't supposed to be in on the joke.

I always thought that zoltar machine should have asked him to break down the wish. "I wish I was big" could also be construed as an extra few inches of meat . Now that would have been a far more interesting movie for miss Perkins

    Hardly Louis Malle, OP.

Think the most inappropriate scene I've seen on TV, which I wasn't expecting, was in the film 800 Balas where the prostitute takes the nine year old lead character to bed and while most of what happens is only implied, the enthusiastic boob squeezing definitely wasn't.

Similar situation with 13 going on 30 in which the central character is a 13 year old girl inside a 30 year old woman's body. Guys trying to hit on her and exposing their penis to her.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,954 ✭✭✭✭Larianne

Saw 'While You Were Sleeping' the other week and had a similar ponderment. If Sandra Bullock had done that in real life - i.e. pretended to be someone's fiancee, fool the family, break into the guy's apartment to fed the cat etc., she'd be arrested or sectioned.

But it's not real, so I didn't ponder too long.

Off topic - Did you know Robert DeNiro was considered for role of Josh.

You just reminded me of "17 again" -

Matthew Perry is a 30 something that becomes 17 again as Zac Efron and narrowly avoids the advances of his teenage daughter, unknownst to her that she's trying it on with her father!

Don't even try and get your head around "The Butterfly Effect" - Ashton Kutcher going back and forth in time like a yo-yo, passes out as a 12 year old boy, wakes up as a guy in his 20's with no arms in bed with his childhood sweetheart... definitely a bit of a mind-fcuk, brilliant film all the same though!

Kate Winslet played a 36 year old woman in "The Reader", knocking boots with a 15 year old boy, never saw the film myself, but remember the storm in a teacup at the time that generated a bit of publicity for the film, unlike the ACTUAL shìtstorm that kicked off when Madonna kissed a ten year old boy at the end of one of her videos, "Open your heart"...

Geez I can think of tons more examples when I really push myself :pac:
