    Hi all
I currently have a 07 1.9 Passat with 225kms on it, I'm thinking of changing to a 09 Car as Passat has heart & pocket broke. Was thinking of a 09 Mondeo, what are your thoughts on this, are they more reliable than Passat. Any info would be greatly appreciated on Mondeo or any other family car.
    Thanks

225kms on a 7 year old car is going to need stuff repairing on it, regardless of model.

    Get something with lower miles

It's a toss up between Mondeo and Passat in terms of running costs in our experience. They both have their good and bad points.

i understand that things will go in all cars but in the last six months along with a service and timing belt iv had to get 2rear callipers and handbrake button replaced, diesal pump,2 rear shocks, new clutch and new front springs.Car is not driven hard,it just seems to be falling apart and parts are not cheap for vw.Was just wondering is there better choices out there.

Most of those parts are general wear and tear parts that are going to need replacing eventually, just unfortunate it happened to you all within 6 months.

Mondeo would be my preference, nothing wrong with an Avensis either :)

Compared to what? VW parts are very reasonably priced IMO. Take the rear shocks and the clutch for example. They are cheaper for a Passat than virtually any other car in the class.

600 euro to get a handbrake fixed plus the cost of getting towed to a garage.Thats not cheap. Why change somthing that has worked fine for years.Anybody i have talked to seem to be of the opinion that vw are just thrown together. Not the same build quality as of years ago IMO.

You could say the same about any newer make and model IMO. As cars become more complex they cost more to fix when they go wrong. This isn't limited to VW.
