    what do you call societies in england functioning as law schools and with the privilige of calling members to the bar ?

    Inns if court. There are four: Gray's Inn. Lincoln's Inn, Middle Temple and Inner Temple. They no longer provide the education (BPTC) directly, it has been hived out to private colleges. However, they still the call to the bar and every barrister must be a member of an Inn.

    Ireland has its own Inn of court: the King's Inns. Here the barrister at law degree is still taught by the Inn.
