I'm wanting to know how much would it cost from your first flight untill your able to fly on your own for a 2man or 4 man small plane.

I've been told for a 4man plane up north it's 30hours but in the south its 45 hours. How true this is Im not sure because this is 3rd hand information.

How much would it be for each lesson and can i spread it over 3 years or more.

UK and Ireland is a minimum of 45hrs for the issue of a PPL, but you can also do a national PPL in the uk too more info here http://www.nationalprivatepilotslicence.co.uk/faq.php

Price's vary from school to school and clubs. Best option is to visit the school/club and find out price's/facilities/aircraft/instructors. I completed my PPL at NFC in around 12 months flying 1 or 2 times a week so I think spanning it over 3 years is a bit too long. If you leave big gaps between lessons often you will find you have to repeat things over and over and will cost more. Also get a class 2 medical before you start training and spending money.

45x £19O=8550. Plus extras, I think I will stick to fishing. Shame to because it's my dream to take to the skies. I was told it was something like 3k Sterling to get your license :(

I'm considering to get a ppl myself, I don't think I can afford to pay for 3 lessons or more per month. 1-2 will have to do. Given that I don't plan to fly commercially, my aim is to enjoy the process. If I would get my ppl I wouldn't fly any more often that once a month anyway.

At these rates, I will see if it's possible to do it over 5 years because anything less I just couldn't afford it

Can someone confirm if the exams have to all be passed in a 12month period?

The exams have to be completed within 18 months, in 6 sittings (defined as a 10 day period) or less and are valid for 24 months after your last exam.

newbie2013, if you just want to fly and aren't too flush with cash, how about microlights? There are some a/c which are very cheap to operate. The Xair is great fun to fly!

How much is it per exam and do they all have to be sat aafter you've completed your lessons

As for the microlight, is that the single seat ones.

No idea how much the exams are, you can find it on the IAA or CAA websites. The full PPL course now requires 100 hours of study, some of which has to be class/supervised study time. Microlights can be two seaters, some nice machines about like the Roko Aero NG4 down at Newcastle.

So, I've decided I would like to do an introductory flight to see how I like it, with the view to doing a PPL. I'm not too far from Weston, so if any instructors or schools are on boards feel free to PM me. Would like to do the flight early February as I'm tied up till then.
