Is Sky broadband as fast as Eircom?

Looking for more advice on broadband options. No landline in the house but there was one a few years ago so i presume easy enough to get going again.

Have been using O2 hotshot on prepay for past few months and its excellent in our area. Surprisingly fast. €20 a month. Only downside is a download limit of 7.5 gb

I watched a documentary on Netflix last week that used up about a third of our limit. Would like to get something to allow more unrestricted use and no monthly limit, don't mind paying extra for it.

We have Sky for tv so was thinking of adding broadband to the package.

Am i correct in saying that Sky require an Eircom phone line? Would this mean that the broadband received would be the same as Eircom in terms of speed, etc.

If eircom have efibre in your area then it should be faster than sky.

Your current provider might have an unlimited option.

Hoping to invest in an iPad at some stage in the new year so unlimited broadband would be good. Would be nice to watch Netflix or similar sites without worrying about going over download limits

I've never had Sky broadband so I can only tell you what I was told when they rang trying to sell it to me. They told me it uses the same lines as Eircom so whatever I was getting from Eircom, I would get the same from Sky. So that would have been a measly 1mb broadband for me!
