Any idea of reasonable cost to add an extra point to an existing Sky setup

    Hi,

The parents have a Sky HD box in the living room (side of the house) fed by a Sky satellite dish on the back wall (the wire comes in directly to the box through an external wall at the side of the house).

They currently have a Saorview box in the sitting room (front of the house) and I've bought them a FTA box to supplement it so they can watch the BBCs etc.

Does anyone have an idea of the kind of cost an installer should charge to install a point in the sitting room? It'll probably involve replacing or adding an LNB to the satellite dish and then getting a wire to the sitting room (either through the attic and down via the old cable connection) or around the house and in via an external wall and cross the top of a door frame (am sure it can be neatly secured there), like has been done with the living room.

I'll ring some local installers tomorrow but just thought I'd ask here first in case I get fleeced!

    Cheers!

If your parents already have sky hd then they should have a quad lnb(4 outputs) on the satellite dish already in place. You are currently using 2 slots on the lnb to feed your sky hd box so you should have 2 spare slots on the lnb meaning you can install upto 2 more fta satellite boxes..

As a rough estimate I would do this type of job for a standard install for approx €40-50 however some areas such as Dublin etc may carry an additional charge due to longer mileage and traffic delays etc.

Cheers -appreciate you getting back to me.

Great news on the lnb front; I didn't realise Sky HD meant it had to be a quad lnb.

I'm in Athlone so will use that quote as an estimate.

    Thanks again!
