We are intermediate (Blue/Red) Skiers and have narrowed down where we want to go to La Plagne, Zell am See or Saalbach. They are all in around the same price, can anyone advise which are better? Been to Zell before and would go back.

Saalbach, will be cheaper in resort than la plagne & is a cracking resort. But you won't go wrong with any of those resorts

I love Saalbach. My all time favourite resort. That said, I'm off to Sauze D'oulx this year..

I am looking for an idea on where to find cheap ski deals. Hope to go the end of Feb early March. What are the best sites to check? I have seen a good deal booking separate flights to Salzburg then heading on the train to Zell am see for around €470pp not incl ski pass. This is for March 8th is this a bit late will there still be good snow? Thanks in Advance

Zell is a bit lower than other resorts - but you could go to Kaprun if you're stuck. Generally any resort with a train station is going to be a risk in March as it's low enough to be accessible by rail!

Would have to agree with the majority and say Saalbach. We had the best time there last year! Zell is ok for a few days and you can also head over to the Kitzsteinhorn in Kaprun for a different days skiing but I think Saalbach would have more to offer your group. Not been to LP so cant comment on that.

Saalbach seems so pricey! Any recommendation's on where to fly into and accommodation? Any other cheap and cheerful resorts can be anywhere in Europe with good snow around the start of march

Fly to Munich or Salzberg. If you're looking for a hotel, we always go half board in Hotel Panther. They usually do a decent deal with ski pass etc. Great location, fab outdoor heated pool. The Furstauer ski school that do a deal with the Intersport in town for a very competitively priced package of rental + school. Have been to the school a few times, really impressed with the instructors. The same family also have apartments at the top of the town, which a friend stayed in and said they were really nice.

The hotels I was looking at seem to be gone. So now it's between Soll, Bad Gastein and Kaprun, which I have been to before which was good, but I'd kind of like to see a new village. What's the skiing like in Soll? Would there be snow in the village?

Saalbach is fairly heavily booked, just looking now as a potential destination as a result of this thread.

Try Hinterglemm or Leogang? I think they might be a little cheaper too.

Found this site - some nice looking apartments http://www.easy-holiday.at/ferienwohnungen-appartements-privatzimmer/en/home.php

Saalbach has great skiing - some of the best long runs in Austria. I actually prefer the skiing there over St. Anton and Ischgl which are supposed to be the 2 best Austrian resorts.
Ring the tourist office or put a request in on the accomodation site.
You can get a place a few k out of the town for cheap I'm sure.
Once you can leave your gear in the ski shop and you're near a ski bus it won't make much difference to be honest.

Hmm, I found it quite boring when I was there. Perfect for a beginner mind you. Lots of "cruisy blues", easy reds and strictly no off piste when I was there. St. Anton was a whole lot more fun, but on the flip side, not a beginner friendly ski area.

well I've skied a lot but not a huge amount of off-piste where St.Anton wins easily as only get to go a week a year nowadays and am more into kiting now - maybe I am getting to a stage where I just like cruisy long runs for technique - the runs in st.anton and iscghl are shorter for sure. not everyone is up to the valluga to lech off-piste run :)

We stayed in an apartment attached to this Saalbach guesthouse. Basic, warm, comfortable and clean, five minute walk from the centre of Saalbach. Three years ago it was 1200 euro for four people to comfortably share.
