What are the options for this.

I was looking in the musicians wanted forum and saw something I was interested in but don't know where to start.

A group of them are trying to organise shared recording through the internet.

My question is this. What is the best PC interface for doing this. And what software is available and suitable for easy application to start off

Any time I have tried to set up recording on my PC the latency was really bad and I found it unusable.

What do people recommend starting off.

I'd be mainly talking about guitar and vocals. Pref seperate synced tracks.

Audacity is free and very easy to use.

I have an ancient P4 PC and latency was never a problem

How did you connect guitar / vocals into PC.

microphone and a headphone jack plug adapter

bear in mind the mic socket in a PC is MONO, the line in is stereo

I tried the guitar with a jack to USB cable from an xbox game. There was almost a second latency. Might not seem much but it was very off putting.

I was thinking of getting one of these or something similar.

Mic or line in is the way to go.

I use the mic, either for a mic for vocals or direct from my FX unit

get a cheap usb audio interface like the focusrite you linked to. PC inputs dont have proper pre amps, which you'll need.
