Will a smart charger extend battery life?

The batteries in my two cars are 3 years old and are getting weak, i had one non-start yesterday. One in a normal bosch battery and one is a more expensive AGM battery.

I am wondering would i get another year or two from them if i buy a smart charger and charge / condition the batteries once a month or so? The manufacturers blurb says a smart charger will greatly extend battery life. Anyone got real-life experience of a smart charger, or am i as well off to just buy two new batteries?
Here is a sample smart charger: i can't post a link for some reason but search for this: thanks for any input!

3 years is about the life of a battery so no don't bother, Happy new year.

Depends on a number of factors but the main thing would be how you use the batteries, is one parked up for long periods at a time with no usage?
If so then yes a smart charger hooked up when not in use would keep it fully charged.
AGM batteries are more resistant to self discharge then standard Lead Acid batts but will still lose charge over time.
Most Motorcycles will be parked over winter and the smart ones will stick a smart charger on to them to keep the batteries fresh for spring.

Good batteries have good warranties, I just bought a Yuasa 5000 series that comes with a 4 year warranty for €100, the cheaper no-name ones were 20 euro cheaper and 2 years warranty.

I'd expect double that from a good quality battery in a frequently used car. I normally get 8 years from an oem battery.
