Hi I have a galaxy nexus mobile on jealy bean working perfectly , I see their is now an upgrade and custom roms with kitkat available from xda developers as google wont be releasing kitkat as the phone is now more than 18 months old.

just wondering is their any benefit in rooting the phone and installing kitKat.
is it worth taking the risk

It's Samsung that won't be updating it, not Google. There's always the risk of bricking your phone which is a hassle to get going again but as long as you follow any of the tutorials and do a backup before hand you'll be fine.

I'm pretty sure it's Google who are not updating it not Samsung, as it is a nexus device.

    Its Google ;)

Its not for the want of trying, its down to the TI OMAP processor not being developed for anymore.

The difference between jelly bean and kit Kat is very slight to the everyday user. Unless you are comfortable with rotting and updating then I wouldn't bother.
If on the other hand you want to get your hands dirty then go for, I am a constant Rom flasher and update my phone at the drop of a hat.

You have to remember that most custom roms may have some slight bugs but if you find a well supported Rom then the developer is constantly updating.

If you read the instructions in the room flashing thread and the rooting instructions then the chances of bricking a device is nill. I have been flashing roms on numerous devices for years and never bricked. I think bricked is a word used to scare people away from flashing custom roms.

Lastly and most importantly, if you decide to go down the custom Rom route, always do a nandroid backup before you start

Thanks for all the replies .

doesnt seem worth it to go from jeallybean to kitkat if their are still a few bugs in it
