Trustworthy dependable sat service for a bedroom

I am a sky customer and have multiroom in two downstairs rooms. I want to get a satellite service in an upstairs bedroom with recordability, pause, rewind etc. I have used the digital receiver/sender boxes before but found them a pain in the arse with interference and having to watch the same shows etc.
I am not interested in giving sky any more money for a third multiroom subscription. Saorview box will be of no use as it's not got the range of channels I would be after. What are my options with regard to set top boxes with no monthly charges? What are the costs and what does installation cost?

Try the Ferguson Ariva, whichever is the latest version will get you the fta satellite channels and Irish DTT channels and recordable too. You will need an aerial connection too, but that should be easy enough.

Thanks for that! It seems just what I'm looking for. Do they install or is install easy?

If you don't need the Irish channels a Freesat+ HDR box can give you a user experience on a par with Sky+ only with no monthly bills and still plenty of channels to choose from.

Unlike the Ferguson and other generic FTA boxes a Freesat+ HDR box will self update, allow you to record one channel while watching another, series link and the latest ones have 'on demand' capability if hooked up to the internet.

The Humax range of Freesat boxes comes highly recommended.

They are fairly simple, they come from that supplier with an up to date satellite channel list, you will just have to scan in the terrestrial channels and add a usb hard drive or usb flash drive.
As Carlos Roca points out the Foxsat HDR is excellent if you want only Freesat, but you will need two satellite feeds to get the best out of it, and it will be more expensive to buy (I own one myself but it's for my main tv and acts as a server to my home network too, but that's a whole other story)
