    Hi.

What is the FAS training allowance for current participants under 25 years of age in receipt of jobseekers payment.
Is it 160 for those in receipt of jobseekers allowance after 01/01/13 and 188 for those in receipt of JSA before 01/01/13.

    Thanks in advance.

I know of a 21 yr old living at home that went from 100 port week on jsa to 219 per week on a fas course, this included a transport allowance.

In my centre anyway anyone who starts FAS since last year gets 160. I dont think when you were receiving JSA matters it's 160 unless you were in FAS before 2013 then you will get 188. I could be wrong but thats how it works for us. But you also get travel allowance which goes up to 32.60. You can also get rent allowance, child allowance and accommodation allowance depending on your situation so who knows exactly what you might get you'd have to ask them!

Going back after Christmas is never easy and especially horrendous in 5th year. Be sure to talk to someone approachable at your school and your parents etc., before making any decision as help is available.

The Fas (now Solas) option would not be viable for you right now.
As you are not attending a Community Training Centre you would not get the age related training allowance which is €40 pw if you were on a full time Fas course or €23 pw for a 20 hour pw course. Also, you could not qualify for a training allowance through having a Jobseekers payment.

Since January 2010, unemployed people who start a SOLAS course do not get a training allowance when they start a SOLAS course unless they are entitled to a qualifying payment, such as Jobseeker's Allowance or Jobseeker's Benefit. However, if you are aged under 18 and attending a Community Training Centre you will still get the age-related training allowance – see ‘Rates’ below.

If you have just left school you cannot get Jobseeker's Allowance. To get Jobseeker's Allowance you must have been out of school for three months and you must be at least 18 years of age.

Your only 16 go to Youthreach you will get paid 40 a week there and then go to FAS. But honestly 'thinking' about dropping out with no good reason is stupid.
