I have just witnessed two magpies chasing a beautiful male kingfisher. The chase went on for several minutes before they caught him and started to kill him.I managed to intervene at this stage and chase the magpies from him.I could not get to the wounded bird and walked away hoping he would recover from the ordeal. The magpies had left the area by then.I returned to the scene of the attack ten minutes later to find the attackers back ,and, with the now very dead kingfisher in one of their beaks.....dreadful creatures.
