    Hi All,

Just wondering if anybody has applied for the statistician positions with the CSO.

What can be expected in the recruitment process?

Also, what sort of work enviroment/tasks would be taken on by succesful candidates?

    Regards

    Dave

Did you get called for the exams? The call out went out on December 20. They're on in PAS on Thursday 9th.

There's a standard civil service middle management verbal reasoning and numeric reasoning test. Also a work sample exercise where you'll be given statistical data etc and make a decision on the basis of that.

Yes I was called to the exam. My date is on the Friday the 10th part of the 6th exam sitting. I contacted the recruitment team and they confirmed that there have been 213 people called to assessment, but couldn't confirm the number of positions open or what the split was between Dublin and Cork.

Anyone got any more information regarding it?

No idea how many positions are available or how they are split. It's probable that they want a pool of candidates to fill positions that become available due to retirements or promotions to higher grades. There are already approx. 100 statisticans working in there.

If you score highly enough in the exam there will usually be a competency-based interview, where you will be assessed under a number (possibly around 5) of set headings. Try to have two or three examples for each one.

It's been a while since I was through this mill but I doubt things have changed.

How did people find the statistician aptitude test? Found the maths really hard -what do others think?

I am definitely not expecting a call up! Did really bad in the maths section and the lack of time warnings also didn't help but probably would not of made too much of a difference, only got through 20/30 of the maths questions. And I had kind of given up by the time the work example came up especially after we were told it would not be marked if we did not pass the two other tests !

I think you did really well to get 20/30 questions done. I didn't get that much done at all. I think I probably did ok in the work sample but don't think there's much chance my paper will get that far. Commission said we would hear within two weeks so its that already-should hear this week. Good luck with yours:)

Does anyone know where I could find a copy of the candidate information booklet for the Statistician competition?

Or recall what the qualifications criteria were in order to apply?

Hi, I know this thread is old, but I have these tests coming up next Friday. Can anyone tell me what the work sample exercise is like? What kind of things do they ask, etc?

A 2016 competition will be run in the coming weeks I believe.
