Anxiety

Anxiety has been a part of my life for upwards of 10 years now (I'm in my 30s) due to an underlying diagnosis. It affects my work, social and personal life. I haven't been properly social in 5 years. Some people I was friends with have left the country due to the recession. I know the answer, in part, is to put myself out there, but it's almost like I've forgotten how to do. Keeping up by email is not the same. Of the one friend still in Ireland, he's just very hard to get a hold of so I haven't seen him in a few years. Getting out of one's comfort zone is also another suggestion, I suppose. I've few hobbies and interests that I pursue.

I get stuck in thought loops and my self-esteem is pretty much non-existent. I don't really know how to deal with it. Well, I can sometimes, but it also can push me into a corner and make things difficult. I used to run quite often as way of helping with sleep and things, but I get pretty anxious about that and leaving the house at times. Lots of little things as well, I hold back...sometimes letting people go ahead of me in queues as I'm not very assertive.

I am seeing a therapist and she is a good listener. I see her again in a few weeks. I'm a little short on ideas on how else to deal with this. It's frustrating and tiring.

OP as you are undergoing treatment for anxiety we cannot approve your thread for risk of someone giving you medical advice. Asking for or issuing advice here is a bannable offense and I fear responses to your thread will result in folk trying to help but in doing so breaching our charter.

If you find your therapist is not working for you or you cannot wait a few more weeks please do and speak to your GP. Sorry we cannot be of more help.
