Panasonic TZ40 v Nikon 1 J2 (Beginner)

Hi all,

as the title says i'm a beginner and am at a loss as to what to get between these two

both are compact, with the panasonic being more compact than the nikon. That is a plus point as i don't like the idea of carrying a bag specifically for a camera.

I know the panasonic also has only internal battery charging which will put some off, plus GPS/WFI need to be manually switched off to spare the battery.

The Nikon has got great reviews, guy in a shop today recommended it over the panasonic but it's also more expensive at approx 350 pounds versus 199 pounds for the TZ40.(Amazon Uk)

can any folk here give some input into which you would go for and why?

I think you need to ask yourself why are you picking either camera ?
The Panasonic is a fairly good compact but if you're spending that much money you might as well pay a few quid more and M4/3 system. Like a GX1 or GF6 which you can pick up for about 300 Euro with a kit lens.

The Nikon is a nice little camera but you are very limited by the quality of the lenses.

My pick if you can afford it is Either the Fuji X20 if you want a compact, Fuji X-M1 or m4/3 system if you plan on buying lenses in the future.
