What are the best and worst mart boards ye have come across. I notice some differences between marts and wonder why they all can't be like connacht gold ones.

have days in herd, movements, test date, birth date as you would expect but also breed on card is displayed.

I was in one earlier in year (but genuinely can't remember which if 2 it is) that didn't even have movements displayed for any of the cattle sold. That is pot luck then.

also find a lot of marts take in cattle late and then don't have time to get tags in. Everything blank.
anyone else notice big differences and basics missing like movement etc.

Athenry are fairly good, large display with about 5 or 6 fields of data.

Gort are poor enough, 1 scrolling bar.

    We're on about cattle bob.

Be wary of some of those movements though. Think I mentioned it on another post that the infoscience mart system has a flaw where it can show up an animal having 5/6 movements if it was in a mart and taken home unsold as it shows up as a in&out movement to the mart number.

I know of two marts only up to two months ago didn't display movements, I like to see how many days in herd a swell as how many movements, one local mart had two seperate boards,1 displaying age, weight the other was a scrolling one with owner name address totally in an obscure place towards the other display, and for a couple of months the owner display one was gone off the wall, hate the scrolling boards, just like to look and see everything there and then, Kilkenny mart is the best place I've been for displaying info

Have been in marts where they have the opposite issue for movements, dealers selling calves with the first movement, saw it more than once, that's one thing on agfood I hate too, if you bring cattle to mart and don't sell they go out and back in again

That is a general area of fault with that certain system, sometimes the calves aren't yet in the dealers herd though.
The sale can't be input on the system if it's in the wrong herd number/name

How long should it take before it's up on the system?

I have a problem with the scroll display that shows the owners name and address.
Every time you look up it seems to be gone past the owners name and you just get to read an address .Why cant it be a fixed .

It usually depends on the mart, e.g. sale on a Saturday, wont have all the CMMS movements sent until Monday evening.
But you can get the girls in the office to send on all the purchase details (for a couple of customers or yourself) straight away to the dept and it will go in immediately.

I see, always thought it would be in be in by dinner time as I have bought animals for lads before and have told girls in office in mart that I might be transferring them again and they said to have rang in by 10 am following morning

Depends how busy the sale is. It's normally not shut up til about 2/3 but there are many who leave it to last minute so it's easiest to get them early.

I think whether they are bvd tested or not should be shown also.. I was testing for the last 2 1/2 years but I used to tell auctioneer to announce for any chance of a few extra bids ;)

That also can happen if people use b&b for housing cattle.. ino my neighbour didnt get QA/AA payment (he has both so I forget which) because they want under 4 movements to be eligible and he had 5 because of B&B.. it isnt supposed to be counted either and hes still battling with the factory because their was 26 cattle and he said it was (i think) €40/head which is alot of money.

Usually fairly instantly if all tests are ok if two herds do it on agfood.. i do my own agfood plus my uncles when cousin is gone away.. I bought cattle off him and did it on the two laptops one after the other and it showed up instantly.
