    What would I buy? Something quick and Japanese!

    If you're looking for actual suggestions then you'll have to be a bit more specific in terms of what you actually want/need and can afford in terms of running costs.

    thinking something fun but not stupid, max engine size prob 2.2m,
    something that looks good not too flashy thou, and reliable

    You would get a mk5 golf gti for around that money. Also a good audi S3 or 225tt. There are all kinds of hot hatches for that money, Mazda RX8's.

    Lots to choose from but lots of rubbish out there too so be careful.

    hearing some bad things about the RX*, not good for short journeys, needs warming up etc? any opinions here?
