You could get an old box or get a freesat box.

ffs no wonder sky were so keen to give out free boxes

Remove the card . Unplug box at the mains , wait 1 min , plug box back in without a card when it boots up you will have the UK EPG listings and can view the free channels from that.

Not on HD boxes, software updates stopped this. Only on old HD boxes and SD boxes.

you need access to a uk free to view card, that will get all FTA, take card out and it still works.

Setanta were giving them for free a while ago.
Not sure if they still do or not.

You need a UK address to get then from Sky. That is if they even still supply them.

Why don't you just retune your box? There's a sticky on the front page here telling you how to do it - my sub ran out today and I retuned it, no problem.

seagoat is your box the latest sky hd+?

I got it two years ago? It's black, says Sky+HD on it.

that explains it, the later ones have been knobbled by sky but the uk card trick works.

Looks like I got in just in time then! Honestly, how petty are they? It's not as if they take the box back when you cancel.

So the Sky+HD box won't show any channels at all if the sub is deactivated, but the workaround is to manually tune in all the FTV channels via other channels menu?

And you'll need to tune them all in again if the box loses power?

That's what I did, but apparently it doesn't work on newer boxes.

No the best workround is to use a UK ftv card, if one has one and apparently even the old blue card will work. I am getting an DRX890 tomorrow for a friend so can check that and see if a reboot still works. The DRX 890 is quite old.

Not all old UK blue cards will work, fine if its been activated in the past...but some are not deactivated so best if possible obtain a white one....and if you are really lucky rare but some do actually have skyplus features still active on them.

I found that these old cards will re-activate if left in the Sky box overnight/24 hours.

I bought a sky+hd box from adverts to use as a free to air box and was lucky enough to get the uk free to view card from setanta, it just meant i had the english epg on my box rather than rte1 as channel 1. i put all my channels on favourites so i did not really need it, but i still have it in the box. Recently i have noticed that when i turn on my sky box i cant get the free channels to show up as they did before, it keeps saying," no listings available" and when i press say 101 for bbc1 nothing shows up only a blue screen, i found a way around this by going into" other channels" and then high lighting a free to view channel in their, and then my channel shows up, and that gets the rest of them going also, hope this helps.
