Electric Parking Brake Failure

    Hi my Electric parking brake has stopped working on my 2009 avensis started car up and went to let the clutch out to release it and noting.
    Except warning light on dash and CHECK PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM on dash.
    Two questions, how much am i looking at it to have it fixed?
    Second, as it is released i presume its ok to drive.

    ouch.....

    happened to someone i know, it cost them about €1400 to replace the handbrake actuator...

    Thats madness.
    Im not saying you are wrong but surely there must be cheaper ways out than that. Thats a crazy bill.
    4.5 hrs labour? Thats some repair time, whats involved in replacing that?

    If an S CLass mercedes was throwing up bills like that, people would say they are cheap for a reason but for a random item on an avensis, thats quite sickening.

    its to take down the complete rear subframe and refit, which has to be done to remove the actuator unit.... pretty sure thats the standard rate time for that repair.

    yup it is a complete sickner....

    no cheap way out really, sur its the part that makes it so expense....€900 excluding vat

    Surely a recon or used unit could be sourced?

    ya you can fit a second hand unit, but they do go in them so its a bit of a gamble... no doubt the cheapest way out of it...


    dunno of any recon units surely only a matter of time..


    seems to be an issue for some the 09-11 model, face lift models seemed to fine
