X-Type / Mondeo Fuel Gauge Help

I have an X-Type (same as Mondeo) with the fuel gauge stuck on the quarter tank mark and does not move.

The fuel warning light does come on however, when the fuel is low.
I have also disconnected the connector to the fuel sender unit and switched the ignition on and the gauge remains at the quarter tank mark.
If i place the car into test mode, the fuel gauge does not move.

This would suggest to me a faulty gauge rather than a faulty fuel sender unit.

Anyone with any experience on this?

Is it easy enough to remove the instrument cluster?
And if i do, what can i do to release the needle on the gauge?

Ok. Figured it out. Removes easily enough. Just 8 screws. Problem is the gauge itself.
