Now? in the middle of the season. No way.

If he wants dead ones I may be able to give him a few.

Most lads will be selling them for release by February/March I'd say

Well lads released pheasants on land I hunt 3 days ago and they don't rear pheasants so that's why I said he may want to release them.

It will cost you €€€s this late in the season for fully grown birds - if you can get them, as they will have to be trapped - caged/pen birds won't be worth shooting. You will not have time before the end of the season to get them ‘trained’ / acclimatized to the release area as you will have to release them directly onto the land. Also, if you have other birds on the ground it will cause problems. The cocks will start to gather hens quite soon if the weather stays mild and there will be considerable competition which will encourage the weaker birds to stray. Even if you release them over a large area and have feeders & good cover you will be very lucky to get a 40% bag return.

I buy Bazanty-cross poults from Fiach (059 647 3279) and have bought melanistic ones from Finn Valley. Never tried out birds from Martin Maloney, (052 613 5322) no particular reason, just never needed to. Finn Valley’s were good but the best results were Fiach’s birds, buy everything from him now. His birds flush really well, are very strong flyers, and hold fairly tight to the release area. They also are bigger than the melanistics.

you will buy adult birds for around 5e each at the begaining of february , birds this late will cost you around 20e a bird . i buy my birds as poults of a local lad and have got a good return on them .one thing i will say is from my own experience buying pheasants from pheasants farms you need a pen to put them in after buying, with good cover and trees etc cause they dont roost at night in most pheasant farms so if you realease these birds straight after buying chances are they will be fox food .even the chap i buy my poults off they dont roost at night so ive a pen with trees and branchs and heavy cover for when i buy them and so far this year i havnt lost a bird to a fox cause there all roosting of the ground .i let my birds of middle of september and there total wild come november .thats just my two cents of it any way
