Sky in several rooms

My parents currently have the basic Sky package with a recordable box in the living room and they can also view Sky on the tv in the kitchen, although they don't have a box there.

They're hoping to put another recordable box in the bedroom, and they would like to have the same arrangement whereby it can be viewed on the tv in another bedroom. My elderly Dad rang and they quoted him €269 for the box, €100 for installation and an extra €30 per month subscription. They said if another dish is needed, they won't charge him.

This seems high to me, but I live in an apartment and have UPC, so I'm not used it dealing with Sky. I'm going to ring Sky for my Dad, though, and see if they can do it for cheaper.

Could anyone please advise as to whether this seems like a fair price? Thanks.

Ring a local installer instead. Not sure Sky will do the install into the 3rd bedroom as it's not a Sky box you want there. Or they may have misunderstood.

Looks like Sky were planning to install two additional Sky boxes instead, which explains extra €30 per month charge.

You can pick up a 2nd hand Sky HD box for €50 or less, although you will somebody to install it.

Note that in the past, the box for multiroom was free. Not sure about now.

It's going to be a 12 month minimum contract - and they will need to run an active land line to BOTH boxes. This is to verify they remain in the same house.

Again it's likely Sky got confused and were quoting for two additional boxes - one free and one at full price.

Maybe try calling them but don't mention the third bedroom - and get this done yourself (it's very easy).

The 1st MR box is free (ones without the hard drive) and for upgrading customers you don't need a landline anymore
